The game of GO originated in China 3000 years ago .
This game was considered one of the essential art of China:

It reached Korea by the 5th century and in the 7th century it had reached Japan. It did not become popular in the West until the late 19th century.
According to legend, the game was created as a teaching tool for the son of the Chinese Emperor. The main goal was to learn discipline, concentration, and balance through this game.
Another legend for the game is that Chinese Generals of war and warlords used pieces of stone to prepare their attacking positions.
